Enlisted December 8, 1863 at Catlin, NY.  Mustered in as a Private in Company "D."  Appointed Sergeant December 28, 1863.  Discharged July 25, 1864, to accept commission in the United States colored troops.  Prior service in Company "F" of the 23rd New York Volunteer Infantry.
